Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the article, "Neutrality as virtue" (Sept. 13). Being an appointed Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh can neither choose his team nor control it. His gentlemanly qualities and global acclaim are his only effective tools. In the context of regional parties asserting their presence in national politics and with no in-house following, it is indeed difficult for him to manage the coalition. Values change over time; so do virtues. When special situations warrant special capabilities, let us not be virtue-dogmatic.
B. Ganapathy Sundara Raman,
Chennai
