Shaw Wallace's initiatives

KOLKATA, SEPT. 13. Shaw Wallace & Company has launched a clutch of initiatives to settle its Rs. 300 crore income tax demands, which it hopes will enable the shareholders to get better returns, P. M. Nene, director, said. Talking to the press after the company's annual general meeting here he said, "Steps were being taken under the IT Act to settle these demands within a year or so". The company's initiatives include going in for a one-time-settlement for resolving this issue. To a question on the company's entry into the country liquor segment, Komal Wazir, daughter of the late M. R Chhabria (and now executive director, SWC) said in line with SWC's commitment to enter this segment, it had already launched country liquor in Uttar Pradesh. — Our Special Correspondent
