Meraj-e-Alam celebrated

SRINAGAR, SEPT. 13. Meraj-e-Alam, the night when Prophet Mohammad went to heavens, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Jammu and Kashmir today. Dressed in their best, men, women and children thronged mosques and shrines, including the historic Hazratbal shrine, to offer prayers.

The Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, visited the Hazratbal shrine and took stock of the arrangements made by the administration to facilitate the devotees.

In a message on the auspicious occasion, the Mufti expressed the hope that the day would usher in an era of ``lasting peace and prosperity'' in the State.

The journey of Prophet Mohammad to the heavens during the night of Meraj was the greatest of miracles of the Allah's messenger, he said in the message. — PTI
