Progressive organisations taking out a candlelight procession in Mysore on Sunday.
MYSORE, SEPT. 13. Progressive organisations in the city held a candlelight procession on Sunday to protest against the "flag politics" of the Sangh Parivar. The procession was meant to symbolically lead the society "away from the darkness of communalism of the Sangh Parivar towards the light of human values." Led by the rationalist and thinker K. Ramdas, the participants gathered at the yard opposite the Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the north gate of the Mysore Palace on Sunday evening, raising slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its frontal organisations.
Yatra criticised
They criticised the `Tiranga Yatra' undertaken by BJP leader Uma Bharti, and called upon the Government to stop the yatra and arrest the leaders participating in it. They criticised the BJP for misusing the national flag and "spreading the venom of communal hatred," reaping political gains in the bargain. The activists marched to Gandhi Square from the Mysore Palace, where they garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The Dalit leader Harihar Anandaswamy and activists Satyalingaraju, K.S. Shivaramu, L.S. Jagannath, Lakshman Hoskote, Basavaraj, and Janamana Krishna participated in the procession.
