DAVANGERE, SEPT. 13. The Deputy Commissioner, Ravishankar, has expressed his helplessness over the engineering department not lifting the foodgrains and said that he would distribute the foodgrains to the taluk panchayats and get the required works done by them. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Ravishankar said that the engineering department of the Public Works Department and the zilla panchayat had not been lifting the foodgrains though other departments such as Forest and Dry-land Development were. Of the 5,500 tonnes of foodgrains released to the district, only 1,000 tonnes had been lifted, he said.
Food-for-work scheme
He said the engineering departments had taken decided against taking up works under the food-for-work scheme. The departments had also decided to take up only schemes with cash component.
Voters' list
Mr. Ravishankar also said that the meeting of all political parties with regard to summary revision of voters' list had not been encouraging, as many parties did not attend the meeting.
