HASSAN, SEPT. 13. Former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily has underlined the importance of finding a permanent solution to the problem in admissions to professional courses. Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Moily said that he was disheartened by the problems faced by students over admission to professional courses. He said that the draft copy to be submitted to the Union Government to promulgate an Ordinance in this regard was ready. Providing a permanent solution to the issue was up to the Union Government, he added. The process of admissions was transparent and trouble-free till the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government assumed power. Based on the recommendations of the report submitted by Justice Unnikrishnan, the seats were being allotted to the students. While the other Governments followed the pattern adopted by the State Government, the NDA Government had appealed in the Supreme Court against the recommendation of the Unnikrishnan Committee. The Supreme Court had rejected the recommendations of the report. The managements of private institutions made use of the verdict, he said.Mr. Moily said that the Government and the managements of private institutions should come to an understanding. The present fee structure would frustrate both economically backward and meritorious students of backward classes, he added.
