NEW DELHI: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed satisfaction with the growth and progress of highway section in India and renewed its commitment to support development of National Highways in future too. The visiting Vice-President of the ADB, South Asia, Liqun Jin, today called on the Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, T. R. Baalu, and held discussion on the progress of the National Highway Development Project. While expressing his satisfaction on the growth of highway sector in India, Mr. Jin renewed ADB's commitment in assisting India in completion of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) and other road sector programmes. Mr. Baalu informed Mr. Jin the UPA Government's commitment not only to the development of highway sector but also connecting National Highways Development Project (NHDP) to State and district roads besides carrying forward programmes aimed at improving port connectivity and establishing better road linkages in North-Eastern States and far-flung areas.
