VELLORE, SEPT.13. Seven hundred and fifty bicycles were distributed to the X Standard toppers of government, aided and matriculation schools in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts (in the public examinations held in April 2004) on behalf of the Sri Narayani Peedam, under its `Vidya Netram' scheme, at a function at the Peedam premises near here on Sunday. Distributing the bicycles, Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Supreme Court Judge, hailed the gesture of the Peedam in gifting bicycles to the meritorious students. Sri Sakthi Amma, managing trustee of the Sri Narayni Peedam Charitable Trust, said that one needed power and money in order to be able to do `dharma' (charity) to the poor. And this power and money could be acquired only through education. Justice V.Kanakaraj, Judge of the Madras High Court, distributed certificates to students.
