Vehicles seized in crackdown

VELLORE, SEPT.13. Eleven vehicles were seized for violating of motor vehicle (MV) rules during a special raid conducted by the transport department in Vellore district on September 8 and 9.

Inspection reports were issued to the owners/drivers of 99 vehicles, of which 11 vehicles were seized for violation of M.V. Rules, including offences such as non-possession of permits and proper driving licences, fitness certificates and evasion of tax.

Besides, 272 offences were detected and inspection reports issued to the owners/drivers. The offences included absence of insurance certificates, use of overbright headlamps, use of air horns emitting excessive sound, accommodating excessive number of school children, carrying excessive load, and driving of vehicles by boys not eligible for driving licences.

A compounding fine of Rs.30,200 was fixed and a tax of Rs.10,595 collected as a result of the raids, said an official release.
