PONDICHERRY, SEPT. 13. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, today asked Government departments to ensure that more job opportunities were created and to fill all vacant posts. He wanted speedy implementation of the schemes and fulfilment of the assurances given on the floor of the House during the recent budget session. Reviewing the expenditure incurred by the Government under the Annual Plan (2004-2005) at a meeting here, Mr. Rangasamy who is also in charge of the Finance portfolio, said the departments should also ensure that 85 per cent of the Plan outlay was spent by the end of this year. The Director of Planning and Research department, M. Sreedharan, said the Chief Minister also underscored the need for taking up programmes that would benefit the public directly. New programmes announced in the budget for 2004-2005 should be taken up on priority. The Chief Minister was informed that Rs. 131.28 crores had been spent up to August and steps were intensified to spend the remaining quantum of funds. The Welfare Minister, M. Chandirakasu, the Local Administration Minister, A. Elumalai and the Chief Secretary, C.S. Khairwal.
