Science awareness programmes

KASARAGOD, SEPT. 13. The Kasaragod People's Forum will formally launch its Science Awareness Programmes at a function to be held at the Government College auditorium on September 16.

The district collector, Minhaj Alam, would inaugurate the launching of the awareness programmes at a function scheduled at 2 p.m. The agricultural scientist, K.P. Prabhakaran Nair, would deliver the keynote address at the function to be presided over by the College Principal, P.V.Madhavan Nair. Students of the Department of Geology would present scientific papers on Ozone topics.

Science for Society

The Forum is organising various programmes as part of the year-long science awareness year, in association with various science forums.

To begin the Forum, in association with the Department of Physics of the Government College would hold a science seminar on "Astrophysics" on September 22 at the college auditorium. The Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad president, N. Papputty, will inaugurate the seminar.

Science awareness classes on various topics and interactive sessions with scientists are the scheduled for October. A district-level quiz competition on science and technology and other competitions for students and visits to science museums and scientific institutions form part of the programmes of the Forum for November.

Exhibition

Mobile exhibition highlighting science and technology aspects of daily life and environmental issues would be held in December. The Forum has scheduled an all-India Science Exhibition, based on the slogan "Science for Society", in February 2005.

The exhibition would be organised associating various medical and engineering colleges, agricultural universities and other Science and Technology-Oriented institutions.
