KOZHIKODE, SEPT. 13. The CPI legislature party's deputy leader, Binoy Viswam, today asked the Oommen Chandy Government to declare its stand on burning issues concerning NRI-Keralites.
`No protection'
Mr. Binoy Viswam alleged the Antony Government had not at anytime kept the tall promises it had given to Keralites living in other countries and neglected their interests all along. The CPI leader said that Keralites in Gulf countries were now convinced that neither the Central Government nor the State Government would come to their rescue when they got into trouble. Even in Indian Embassies there was nobody willing to give a sympathetic ear to their tales of persecution and sorrow. While asking the United Democratic Front Government to announce its stand towards Keralites employed abroad, Mr. Binoy Viswam urged the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, to clarify if issues concerning Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) such as steps to prevent "day light robbery being committed by airlines" and launching of "low-cost flights", which had been included in his "Programme for 100 days", would be dealt with. He also appealed to the Chief Minister, who also is in charge of NRIs, to expedite steps for opening of more attestation centres in Kerala for Keralites going abroad for employment.
