Bus operators threaten indefinite stir

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, SEPT. 13. Private bus operators in the State have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from midnight of September 16, unless the Government hiked the bus fare.

In a press release here today, Khalid Mundapilly and K A Makkarkunju, president and general secretary of the Ernakulam District Private Bus Operators' Association, said that there was a hike in taxes, the price of diesel and spare parts. But the bus fare has not been hiked despite repeated demands. The State Government had promised that the bus fare would be hiked in September, as a condition to call off the indefinite stir, which began on July 26. But this condition has not been met.
