Call to improve civic amenities in Proddatur

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH, SEPT. 13. The Bharatiya Janata Party's Proddatur constituency incharge, K. Balachandra Reddy, launched relay hunger strike in Proddatur on Monday demanding improvement of amenities in Proddatur town.

Mr. Balachandra Reddy, the district BJP president, K.V. Ramana Reddy, and the party observer, Narayanaswamy Naidu, went in a rally to the MRO's office and apprised the MRO, S.A. Khader Basha, on the problems affecting people. Farmers faced paucity of irrigation water and people were troubled by acute drinking water scarcity due to lack of inflows into the Pennar catchment area on the downstream of Mylavaram reservoir, they lamented. They demanded immediate release of 4 tmcft of water from Mylavaram reservoir.

Complaining that drinking water supplied had high fluoride content endangering public health, they demanded laying of a new pipeline from the Pennar to supply potable water to the town.

Municipal officials failed to collect taxes on a regular basis and levied heavy taxes now burdening people on the pretext of recovering arrears, the leaders alleged.
