TEQIP is being implemented all over the country by the State Governments through a grant of Rs. 1,550 crores. Design centre
The JSS Mahavidyapeetha had also proposed to start an advanced jewellery design technology centre at JSS Academy Technical Education (JSS ATE-STEP), Bangalore. The centre was being jointly set up by JSS Mahavidyapeetha, and Department of Industry and Commerce, Government of Karnataka, with the support of Dassault Systems, France. The estimated cost of the project was Rs. 4 crores of which the State Government would contribute Rs. 1.76 crores. Dassault Systems would provide Rs. 1 crore. "The balance will be borne by JSS Mahavidyapeetha," Mr. Betkerur said. The objective behind establishing the design centre was to provide advanced training to artisans. The courses would also help artisans improve their productivity. The centre would provide consultancy to jewellery manufacturing units and help set up incubation centres. The centre would also engage in developing new designs, making use of the CATIA software and Rapid Prototype facility, Mr. Betkerur said. The design centre would establish linkages with design institutes, trade centres, jewellers' associations, JSS Polytechnic for the Physically Handicapped and other agencies.
