PATHANAMTHITTA, SEPT. 13. The Kerala State Karshaka Thozhilali Union (KSKTU) State secretary, A.Kanaran, has said that the union would organise a mass movement of farm workers and peasants against the `anti-farmer and anti-farm worker policies' of the United Democratic Front Government. Mr Kanaran was inaugurating the public meeting in connection with the conclusion of the KSKTU district meeting here this evening.
Future course
He said the KSKTU would chalk out the future course of action against the rampant conversion of paddy fields at its annual State meeting to be held next month. Mr Kanaran alleged that the UDF, which had blindly opposed the KSKTU agitation against the indiscriminate reclamation of paddy fields in different parts of the State, had now realised its follies. The Agriculture Minister, K.R.Gouri, had even made a belated statement in the Assembly that the Government would not permit any more reclamation of paddy fields in the State when the KSKTU came out in the open against the largescale conversion of paddy fields, he said. The KSKTU district president, M.M.Sukumaran, presided over the meet. The Ranni MLA, Raju Abraham, the CPI(M) State Committee member, R.Unnikrishna Pillai, the district secretary, K.Ananthagopan, the KSKTU district secretary, V.R.Sivarajan, and the former MLA, P.K.Kumaran, also addressed the meet.
