Guntur
By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, SEPT. 13. The Telugu Desam Party is unable to digest its defeat in the elections and creating confusion in the minds of people on the promises made by the Congress on the power front, the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, said here on Monday. Speaking to businessmen and chartered accountants here, he strongly criticised the former Excise Minister's comment on the financial position of the State and his demand for declaring a financial emergency. He advised TDP leaders to wait for a reasonable time before they begin criticising the Government and pointed out that at a time when the TDP was unable to even pay salaries, it had strongly opposed imposing financial emergency. What they could not do in nine years, they expect the Congress to do in nine weeks and change the circumstances overnight, he said. The TDP leaders had been advising people to tap electricity unauthorisedly, which resulted in 3.5 lakhs connections getting added by August 22 to 3.2 lakhs existing as on May 14. Even the promise to implement the free power for one bulb was implemented by providing subsidy to that extent, which the TDP did not like and wanted power completely free, though they had opposed the proposal while in power. The Rajya Sabha member, Girish Kumar Sanghi, was present.
Panchayat building
The Minister inaugurated the new building of the Bhattiprolu panchayat office building earlier in the day and laid the foundation for a protected water scheme to be implemented at a cost of Rs. 1.22 crores. The Government was committed to welfare of all sections of society and each person must cooperate with the administration to fulfil the dream, he said. Asking the panchayat members to work for the development of the area, he hoped that the new office would be maintained well with clean surroundings and would turn the centre for development activities. Providing electricity free to all farmers was a big drain on the exchequer hence the poor among other users were given a subsidy of Rs. 10 per month on a bill amount of Rs. 25, he added.
