NEW DELHI, SEPT. 13. The Bharatiya Janata Party said today that it would launch an agitation to protest against the growing inflation at the end of the ongoing `tiranga (Tricolour) yatra' on September 25. The party's vice-president and spokesperson, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, said the party cadres would be "out on the streets" from September 26 to demonstrate against the "backbreaking inflation." "The Congress had talked of the common man (aam admi) but now it seems like its Common Minimum Programme should be renamed the "Congress `Mahangayi' Programme." It is an agenda for price rise." He said he did not think the Government would be able to control inflation, as it was a government controlled by those who had the money (poonji patis). In the 100 days of the United Progressive Alliance Government rule, the inflation rate, which hovered at around four per cent, had doubled to more than eight per cent. "We wonder where the prices will reach if this Government remains in office for five years," Mr. Naqvi said. The party also criticised the Left for shedding what he alleged "crocodile tears" over the rising prices while continuing to keep the Central Government afloat.
