`Umpires trying to bring uniformity'
CHENNAI,
SEPT. 13.
"It is easier to work in a small group, which is why it was decided to have the BCCI cricket umpires' workshop and seminar on a zonal basis this year," said international umpire A.V. Jayaprakash at the Chidambaram Stadium on the opening day of the two-day seminar being attended by 41 umpires, 21 of whom are on the National-panel.
"You could term it a refresher course of sorts. Most of the participants are men with years of experience. We are basically trying to bring in uniformity in the interpretation of rules and playing conditions," said the former Karnataka cricketer, who is part of the seven-man faculty conducting the workshop.
"The Board is keen on building the image of the umpires. In fact, during a meeting with the umpires' committee, BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya has promised to provide all facilities to umpires for improving their quality," Jayaprakash said on Monday.
The morning session was spent on revising and understanding the playing conditions. This was followed by a video study. Practical demonstrations were held in the afternoon.
