ADILABAD, SEPT. 13. The Adilabad Judicial Magistrate First Class, T.V.S.S. Prakash, on Monday sentenced two private doctors -- G. Prakash and his wife, Hemalata -- for one-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 for causing the death of a patient due to negligence. The case pertained to the death of Padma of Anukunta village on December 7, 2002, who had undergone treatment at Sai Nursing Home of the doctor couple. According to the investigation carried out by then II Town SI, Jalagam Narayan Rao, Padma underwent treatment for pregnancy at the nursing home. After about six months of treatment, she developed complications due to which she was referred to Nagpur by the doctors. At Nagpur, where she died, it was revealed that she was suffering from jaundice and no treatment was given by the doctor couple. On December 8, 2002, Padma's father, Ramesh, registered a complaint against the doctors.
