BJP slams Government for `failing' on poll promises

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR, SEPT. 13. The Bharatiya Janata Party State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, has flayed the Government for reportedly going back on the election promise of providing free power supply to farmers and single-bulb households.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he alleged that the Government was going back on all its election promises. Criticising the Government for not taking up any comprehensive measures for the uplift of farmers and weavers, he charged that the `Helplines' set up in all districts to redress the grievances of farmers had not yielded any result.

Problems `ignored'

Quoting an example of a farmer from Cuddapah district complaining about the non-functioning of the Helpline and the farmer threatening to commit suicide in front of the Chief Minister, Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy, for not addressing his problems, he asked whether the officials were informing the Chief Minister about the problems being faced by farmers. He also expressed concern over "unofficial power cuts'' in the farm sector.

Mr. Indrasena Reddy demanded that the Government implement the Tamil Nadu State weavers policy in Andhra Pradesh as well. Expressing concern over the crisis facing Sircilla powerloom weavers, he demanded that the Government provide 50 per cent power subsidy to all powerloom weavers.

CPI flayed

Flaying the reported statements made by the CPI State secretary, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, that the BJP had no right to celebrate the Telangana liberation day on September 17, Mr. Indrasena Reddy alleged that the CPI colluded with the Razakars and fought against the Nehru Government. Demanding that the day be celebrated in the State on a par with the Maharashtra and Karnataka States, he alleged that the Government was planning to avoid declaring the Liberation day as State festival in view of its alliance with the MIM.

He reiterated that the BJP would hoist the national flag in Telangana districts on September 17 if the Government failed to officially celebrate the liberation day.

Vidyasagar flays Congress

HYDERABAD: Leaders of the BJP here on Monday lashed out at the Government saying it was going back on several promises. At a press conference, the former Union Minister, Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, said it was widely accepted that the promise of free power did wonders for the Congress in its climb back to power.

But he said within two months of taking over the reins of power, it had gone back on its promise by offering a subsidy of Rs.10 on low-end consumers.
