TIRUNELVELI, SEPT. 13. The Pattali Makkal Katchi founder, S. Ramadoss, today predicted that the State might go for the Assembly polls before May next as the State's finances were in the "worst shape". "The law and order is in total disarray. The Opposition members are being suppressed from expressing their views on the functioning of the official machinery. Moreover, the finances of the State are not healthy and hence the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, would be forced to go for early elections," Dr. Ramadoss told presspersons here. On the proposed desalination plant for Chennai, he said the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre would implement this project as the State Government had unnecessarily spent Rs. 1,000 crores on the New Veeranam Project, instead of taking steps to get 15 tmcft of water under the Telugu Ganga scheme. He also found fault with Ms. Jayalalithaa criticising the Chief Ministers of neighbouring States. Dr. Ramadoss disapproved the State Government's decision against the proposed ferry service between Tuticorin and Colombo, and said the PMK would support all agitations by the people of Tuticorin in support of the service. "At a time when a bus service is operated between Delhi and Lahore, why can't we have a ferry service here?" The PMK leader promised steps to reschedule the departure of the Tuticorin - Chennai Egmore Pearl City Express to its old timings.
