UDUPI, SEPT. 13. The district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has criticised the economic policies of the Centre, which it said, had led to a sudden increase in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other essential commodities. In a press release, the BJP said that the Union Government, under the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, had increased the price of LPG cylinders. It had also put curbs on the distribution of LPG cylinders. This had created an artificial scarcity and led to the black-marketing of the LPG cylinders in many areas. The poor and middle classes were most affected by this move and were put to a lot of hardship because of this, the release said. The prices of essential commodities such as pulses, oil and jaggery had increased due to the "inflationary policies of the Centre." The Government should get a grip over the situation and ensure transparency, the release added.
