Khammam

KHAMMAM, SEPT. 13. Two persons, including a tenth standard student, were arrested in connection with a case of gang rape in Kothagudem town on Monday, according to the sub-divisional police officer,T. Manohar Singh. Mr. Singh said an eighth class student was dragged into a house and molested by an auto-driver and the tenth standard student in Prashantinagar locality. As the condition of the girl started deteriorating she was shifted to the district headquarters hospital. She was said to be out of danger. The Kothagudem polioce registered a case and nabbed the accused within a day of the incident.
Trade bandh
Traders observed a bandh in Gandhiu chowk and other business localities in the town today mourning Vemulapalli Babu, a leader of the Khammam Chamber of Commerce and president of the Khammam Kirana and Jaggery Merchants Association. The chamber leader, who was ailing for quite some time, breathed his last on his way from Chennai to Khammam in the day. Petrol bunks and dall mills in the town also observed bandh.
