UDUPI, SEPT. 13. Elections to the post of president and vice-president of the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) will be held on September 25. In a press release, the Deputy Commissioner, S.R. Umashankar, who is also the election officer, said that the post of the president was reserved for Scheduled Tribe (woman), while that of the vice-president was reserved for Backward Class `B'. The election will be held at the Satyamurti Hall on the CMC office premises, the release added. Since Shanta Krishna Naik of the Bharatiya Janata Party is the only woman ST councillor in the CMC, her election as president is a foregone conclusion. In the 35-member council, the BJP has 20 members, the Congress 12, two independents, who are supporting the Congress and one seat is vacant.
