UDUPI, SEPT. 13. The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has directed all the city bus operators in Udupi to compulsorily display stage-wise fares from September 15. A press release issued by the Secretary of the RTA here said that the RTA had conducted a survey of the all the routes and the bus fares had been fixed accordingly. The city bus operators should charge according to the new fares decided by the RTA. Strict action would be taken against those charging more than the authorised fare list. In the meeting with the owners of the private buses on September 8, the RTA had discussed the problems faced by passengers. It had directed that the personnel in the private buses should compulsorily wear uniforms. They should deal courteously with the passengers. The seats reserved for women and senior citizens should be provided only to them. The RTA directed the bus owners to instruct the cleaners of buses to deal politely with passengers. It said that it had come to the notice of the RTA that the city bus drivers were stopping their vehicles in the middle of the road. They should stop their vehicles to the left side of the road. The use of tape-recorders and air horns was banned in these buses, the release added.
