Artificial limb

camp

MANGALOREMANGALORESIRSISIRSIBELLARYBELLA, SEPT 13.SEPT. 13.SEP The Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd. will organise an artificial limb camp for the benefit of physically handicapped persons in October, according to a press release.

Those interested in availing the benefits of the camp should send details giving their address, contact numbers, particulars of the handicap and other details to the Deputy Manager (administration), MRPL Ltd., post Kuthethur, via Katipalla, Mangalore-575030. The exact date and venue of the camp will be specified later, the release added.

Yoga camp

MANGALOREMANGALORESIRSISIRSIBELLARYBELLA, SEPT 13.SEPT. 13.SEP The Rajayoga Education and Research Foundation will conduct a 10-day free yoga and meditation camp for women from Thursday between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., according to a press release.

The participants will be taught yogasana, pranayama and rajayoga dhyana and the benefits of doing such exercises by the Yogarathna Gopalakrishna Delampady. Interested women above 15 years of age can contact the Foundation office in Urwa stores.

The maximum number of participants will be 60 and admission will be done on a first come first serve basis. Details can be had on 2458141/5283899/98802-88000, the release added.

NSS Award

MANGALOREMANGALORESIRSISIRSIBELLARYBELLA, SEPT 13.SEPT. 13.SEP G.T. Bhat, NSS officer of Motensar Memorial Arts and Science College, has been conferred the D.C. Pawate NSS Award of Karnatak University, Dharwad, for 2003-04 for his contribution to the National Service Scheme for the past five years.

Best bank

MANGALOREMANGALORESIRSISIRSIBELLARYBELLA, SEPT 13.SEPT. 13.SEP The Kanara District Central Cooperative Bank has been awarded a medal and cash prize for being the Best District Cooperative Bank for 2003-04 by Apex Bank, Bangalore.

The bank's president, S.L. Gotnekar, and the Managing Director, L.M. Hegde, received the award, according to a press release.

Quiz winners

MANGALOREMANGALORESIRSISIRSIBELLARYBELLA, SEPT 13.SEPT. 13.SEP Vasudha Dharwad and Sanat Kumar bagged the first and second prizes, respectively, in the quiz competition organised by the Shri Gururaja Seva Samiti, Cowl Bazar, as part of the 333rd Aradhana Mahotsava of Sri Raghavendra Swamiji.

D. Padmaja secured third place. Special prizes were also awarded to C. Shruti and C. Sashikumar here on Sunday.

Sports meet

MANGALOREMANGALORESIRSISIRSIBELLARYBELLA, SEPT 13.SEPT. 13.SEP A two-day district-level sports meet for primary school students will be organised at the District Stadium here from Thursday.

Around 1,000 students from all over the district are expected to take part in the meet organised in association with the Sri Balanjaneya Vidya Samsthe. There would be 13 events for boys and 11 events for girls, K. Prahaladachar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, said.

Preparations for the meet, including boarding and lodging facilities for the participants, was progressing and around 86 sports officers were being deputed for the event, he said.

Financial aid

MANGALOREMANGALORESIRSISIRSIBELLARYBELLA, SEPT 13.SEPT. 13.SEP Applications have been invited by the Mysore City Corporation for the award of scholarships under the Jnanasiri programme for the academic year 2004-05.

A release said that students who had passed examinations above SSLC and pursuing any course are eligible to apply. The scholarship amount would vary depending on the course. Those interested may contact the Health Department at the corporation.

The last date for submission of completed applications along with the relevant documents is October 31.
