CHENNAI, SEPT. 13. The Office of the Commissioner of Central Excise, Chennai Commissionerate, has stated that 12 more service categories have been brought under the service tax net from September 10. They are: business exhibition services, airport services, transport of goods by air, survey and exploration of minerals, opinion poll services, intellectual property services other than copyrights, forward contract service, pandal or shamiana service, outdoor catering, TV or radio programme production, construction services in respect of commercial or industrial buildings or civil structures and travel agents (other than air/rail travel agents). Already 58 services have been covered under the tax net. The service providers have to get themselves registered by making an application form to the Superintendent of Central Excise, Service Tax Cell, within 30 days of the imposition of the levy. Failure to collect and remit the service tax warrants payment of interest at 13 per cent, besides a penalty. In case of any difficulty or if any clarification is required, the service providers may seek guidance from the Joint Commissioner (Service Tax) over telephone number 28331120 or Superintendents (Service Tax Cell) telephone numbers 28331076 or 28331001 extension: 345.
