Notices to Gujarat Government
AHMEDABAD,
SEPT. 13.
The Gujarat High court today issued notices to the State Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to show cause as to why the Sabarkanth district BJP chief, Jethabhai Prabhudas Patel, named main accused in a post-Godhra riot case and declared "absconder," had not been arrested though close to two years had lapsed since the chargesheet was filed.
Justice C.K. Buch issued the notices on a special criminal application by riot victim, Haji Mohammed Usman Amuji.
Mr. Patel, who was the chairman of Sabar Dairy, had also been a campaign manager for the BJP in the December 2002 Assembly elections, held in the backdrop of the Godhra carnage and its aftermath, it was alleged. PTI
