MCH moves to meet dengue threat

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, SEPT. 13. With the number of dengue cases reported from various parts of the State rising, and the threat of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases looming large over the twin cities, the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad is launching a multi-pronged campaign to create awareness about the disease and the necessary precautions.

Additional Commissioner, (Health and Sanitation), G. Malsur, said though the dengue fever rate in Hyderabad was not alarming, there was a need to initiate measures to prevent and control the disease, also known as the Break Bone Fever.

Awareness campaign

The campaign, apart from door-to-door visits, will include distribution of information, education and communication material in schools and colleges, Government and private institutions and through religious places. While the material in schools is intended to trigger off discussions among children to be passed on to family members, the religious places are being targeted to create debates on the control of the mosquito menace, especially that of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, the infected female of the species which transmits dengue.
