HYDERABAD, SEPT. 13. The World Bank has cleared a loan of Rs. 1,380 crores for taking up urban development activities in the State. The fund flow will begin in December. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, made this disclosure on Monday at a review meeting on the performance of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) and Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA). This was the first combined meeting of the urban bodies of Hyderabad, which was also attended by the city's elected representatives. The funds would be spent to equip the MCH, other corporations and the 118 municipalities in the State with better civic amenities such as roads, drainage lines, flyovers, storm water drains etc.
Funds for QQSUDA
The MLAs led by Asaduddin Owaisi, MIM, sought at least Rs. 80-90 crores for the city. Dr. Reddy reportedly expressed his displeasure that the three urban bodies of Hyderabad, MCH, HUDA and QQSUDA for "overlapping" each other. He wanted an uninterrupted share of funds for the QQSUDA to ensure development of the old city.
