Literary competition

KOCHI, SEPT. 13. An all-Kerala inter-collegiate literary pentathlon called `Sargapatham 2004' will begin at the Sacred Heart College, Thevara, on Tuesday. A symposium titled `Dehumanisation of the education scenario' was held on Monday as a prelude to the two-day event. About 20 colleges are expected to participate.

`Join hands for development'

The State Fisheries and Sports Minister, Dominic Presentation, has said that civic bodies, residents and their organisations should join hands for the development of the city. Inaugurating a meeting organised by the Council of Residents' Association for felicitating the people's representatives on Sunday, Mr. Presentation said basic infrastructure facilities should be ensured while implementing any development programme in Kochi. The Ernakulam MP, Sebastian Paul, said that efforts were on to construct a flyover at Vyttila Junction to prevent traffic jams.

Passports issued

The Regional Passport Office has processed and issued passports for applications received till June 16 for which police verification had been completed. Passports have been despatched by September 10, according to a statement issued by the Regional Passport Officer.

First aid course

The ninth batch of the St. John's Ambulance first aid course conducted by the district branch of the Indian Red Cross Society will begin on October 3. A basic knowledge of English is necessary to enrol for the course that will be held at the Red Cross Hall at the District General Hospital from 10 a.m. to12 noon on eight consecutive Sundays. Application forms are available at the Red Cross office. Completed forms should be submitted by September 25 along with a fee of Rs. 300. More details could be sought from telephone 2370570.
