Three held for murder

MADURAI, SEPT. 13. The police today arrested three persons, including a woman, for the murder of a jeep driver in a lodge at Arappalayam.

The police said the decomposed body of Anis John, of Santhamparai, in Kerala, was found in a room on July 30 this year. A case of suicide was registered, but the post-mortem confirmed that it was a murder.

A special team arrested Jose alias Rajan, 39,, his wife Niharbunissa, 40, and son Sikandar Batcha, 22, of Palani. They confessed to having hired the jeep driven by Anis John at Santhamparai for a trip to Coimbatore. When they halted in Madurai for a break, Rajan and Sikandar Batcha strangulated the driver in the hotel room, to make money by selling the jeep. However, they could not sell the jeep, as they did not have original records.

Clerk stabbed to death

One person was stabbed to death on Kamarajar Salai here today.

The police said N.K. Manikandan, 26, a clerk of a private polytechnic, was stabbed by two persons this evening. He died on the spot. One of the accused was identified as M. Prasanna, 27, a lecture in the polytechnic.

A special team has been formed to nab them.
