Steps to address complaints about polling booths

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT. 13. The inconveniences experienced by the voters on account of the location ofpolling booths during the last Lok Sabha elections will be brought to the notice of the Chief Electoral Officer, the District Collector, Tinku Biswal, has said.

She was addressing a meeting of MLAs and representatives of political parties regarding the publication of voters' list and identity cards here today.

The Congress MLAs, Varkala Kahar, and M.A.Vahid, said that many voters did not figure in the list while setting up polling booths in certain places. Many had to go to distant places to cast their vote. Those with identity cards could not vote since their names did not figure in the voters' list, the representatives of political parties said.

Ms. Biswal urged the party representatives to give written complaints on such issues.

Attempts were being made to provide the voters' list to the parties at the earliest. Directions would be given to the officials not to cause any inconvenience to the political workers who approached the village offices with complaints about the list.

Those without ration cards could enrol themselves by furnishing documents issued from the panchayat or village offices. Directions had also been given to the police station to immediately attend to the complaints of those who had lost their voter identity cards. The draft list in each region would be published in post offices, village offices and taluk offices. Complaints could be submitted till October 15. Those having the cards also should verify their photo and signature with those in the list, she said.
