Sir, The article "Punching above its weight?" (Sept. 11) is rather uncharitable to Britain. One might as well ask what Russia is doing in the Security Council after forfeiting its superpower status or, for that matter, France decades after its colonial empire has wound up. Britain has held together a Commonwealth of over 50 states. And it may well displace the U.S. as the favoured destination of knowledge and enterprise across the world.
