Alleged tree felling: KSSP warns of stir

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE, SEPT. 14. The Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP) has warned of a mass stir if the Government failed to take quick steps to preserve the Jeerakappara forest area, near Thusharagiri, where tree felling allegedly occurred.

Talking to presspersons here today, K. Sreedharan, chairman, KSSP sub-committee on environment, said that what had been going on in Jeerakappara was "corruption and violation of law''. They alleged that it was the real estate lobby which was indulging in alleged tree felling in Thusharagiri.

They said that there had been efforts from various quarters to turn this problem into a farmers' issue by putting forward the case of farmers who had been provided with 10 cents land in the forest area.
