PW leaders to unveil `martyrs memorial'

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, SEPT. 14. People's War leaders Gaddar and Varavara Rao will unveil the country's largest `Martyrs memorial' built by the party at Guthikonda Bilam in Piduguralla mandal of Guntur district on Friday.

The memorial pillar is 52-feet tall and built with contributions from people.

The PW proposes to organise a massive public meeting on Friday evening in the village, where the movement gained strength in the district.

Meeting with a purpose

Meanwhile, the party has also proposed holding a massive meeting at Piduguralla town on September 23 to oppose the construction of the Pulichintala project.

The PW in association with other Left parties has decided to organise the meeting to impress upon the people the loss they would suffer compared to the benefits.

The PW had sent back the land surveyors last month from Pulichintala when they tried to begin the work.

The party believes that construction of a tail-pond at Halia in Nalgonda district would enable the Irrigation Department to divert the Godavari waters into it and allow the supply of water to land in Nalgonda and Guntur districts, whereas the amount of submergence due to the Pulichintala would be very large affecting livelihood of many villagers.
