Transfers banned

With the summary revision of electoral rolls on, a ban has been imposed on the transfer of officials involved in the work up to January 3, especially collectors, RDOs and MROs.

The revision of the electoral rolls has been frozen in Siddipet and Asifnagar constituencies, as the byelections in these two constituencies are due for them on October 13. The ban on transfers applies to officials connected with the election work till October 16.

The Chief Electoral Officer, M. Narayana Rao, told reporters here on Tuesday that the notification for the byelections would be issued tomorrow. The RDO, Siddipet, and the Additional Commissioner (Works), Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, had been made returning officers for Siddipet and Asifnagar, respectively. The schedule of the programme would be as follows:

Nominations will be received from September 15, last date for filing nominations is September 22, scrutiny of nominations September 23, withdrawals September 25, date of polling October 13 and counting of votes from 8 am to 5 pm on October 16. Siddipet has 1,84,789 voters with 190 polling stations and Asifnagar 1,67,509 voters with 187 stations.
