CUDDALORE, SEPT 14. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. has slashed call charges for both landlines and cellphones by as much 60 per cent from September 10. The new tariffs, according to BSNL General Manager (Cuddalore division), P. Chinnaian, are as follows: for landline calls made within Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry within 50 km, 180 seconds will be treated as one unit, and above 50 km - 60 seconds as one unit. For calls to other States (outside Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry) within 50 km - 90 seconds will constitute one unit, and above 50 km - 30 seconds one unit. From landlines to cellphones - BSNL cells within Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry - 60 seconds one unit, for non-BSNL cellphones - 45 seconds one unit; outside Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry 30 seconds one unit for all cellphones. The new charges for cellphone services are as follows: from BSNL pre-paid cellphones within Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry - 90 paise per minute (previous charges Rs 2.20), to landline - Rs 1.20 per minute (Rs 2.40). For cellphones outside Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry - Rs 2 per minute (Rs 2.40), and to landline - Rs 2.40 per minute (Rs 3.60). For the BSNL pre-paid plan 325 - within Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry - 80 paise per minute (Rs 1.40), to landline - Rs 1.20 per minute (Rs 1.80).
