SALEM, SEPT. 14. In the wake of the controversy over the publication of an offensive article on Periyar E.V. Ramasamy in the annual magazine of the Government Arts College here, the Periyar University has asked affiliated institutions to seek its approval before publishing articles, particularly of a political and sensitive nature. The university has urged the colleges to send the draft to it well in advance for its perusal, the Vice- Chancellor, T. Balakrishnan, told reporters here. He had sought a detailed report from the souvenir committee of the Government Arts College, which was responsible for the magazine that carried the controversial article reportedly contributed by a student. Hereafter, the principals would be asked to give an undertaking that any material published in college magazines or journals would not hurt the feelings of any "particular community or individual."
Convocation
The third and fourth convocation of the university would be held on September 15. The Governor, P.S. Rammohan Rao, would preside and V.K. Natraj, Director, Madras Institute of Development Studies, would deliver convocation address.
