ZP chief, Dalit leader cross swords

By Our Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA, SEPT. 14. The Zilla Parishad Chairperson and TDP leader, Nallagatla Sudha Rani, had a wordy duel with State Dalit Sena president, J.B. Raju, after the latter criticised the previous Government and showered praise on the Rajasekhara Reddy Government at a function in which the Social Welfare Minster, D.S. Redya Naik, was present, here on Tuesday.

The trouble began when Mr. Raju, while addressing an awareness meeting organised by the State Finance Corporation, alleged that about Rs 6,000 crores worth funds earmarked for the welfare of the SCs and STs were diverted for other departments by the TDP Government. He urged the new Government to recover the diverted funds. Mr. Raju accused the TDP of neglecting the welfare of the SC, ST communities.

Ms. Rani took exception to Mr. Raju's remarks and told him that she was also a Dalit. Mr. Raju then apologised to her. Not satisfied, Ms. Rani left the place without waiting for the Minister's address.
