Congress rebuts TDP criticism
At a press conference, they countered the TDP accusation that the Congress had already started going back on its election promises. The charges stemmed from the Telugu Desam's anxiety to get back to power even though people had rejected it. The leaders said it was strange that the main Opposition party was judging the performance of the Congress Government in 100 days when people had given it a mandate for five years. The TDP Government had diluted most of its populist promises and it was strange that they were trying to find fault with the Congress Government, said Mr. Muddukrishnama Naidu.
BJP's demand ridiculed
Speaking to newsmen here on Tuesday, R. Anand Bhaskar and Uppala Sharada, spokespersons and Jaganmohan Rao, secretary, said the BJP leaders were unable to digest the Congress coming back to power. The BJP was seeking to make a determined bid to gain a mileage by talking of Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 in which its role was minimal.

Dacoits decamp with valuables
According to the police, 10 dacoits in masks gained entry into the house of K. Laxmi (41) by breaking open the door. The dacoits thrashed the woman and her mother-in-law and snatched away gold ornaments from them and later locked them in a room. The dacoits, who were unable to open the almirah, took away it.
LP-Cet results out
Speaking to reporters after releasing the LP-Cet 2004-05 results here on Tuesday, she said the Government would open or allow new colleges depending only on the requirement of such teachers. As many as 36,833 out of 52,687 candidates who attended the LP- Cet passed. The ranks will be despatched to them tomorrow. Counselling for them for allotment of the available 4,030 seats in Telugu, Hindi and Urdu language pandit courses in 64 colleges would begin from November 1. If candidates found any difficulty in securing rank cards, they could contact the convener of the LP-Cet, office of the Regional Joint Director, School Education, Kacheguda (Phone No: 040-27563104 or 040-55690747).
Burgula remembered
Recalling the sacrifice made by Burgula Ramakrishna Rao in stepping down as Chief Minister of the erstwhile Hyderabad State to pave the way for a unified Andhra Pradesh in 1956, he said it was on the linguistic consideration that the present State was carved out. The Congress Government was for integrated development of every backward area as a whole regardless of its location in the State, he said. Dr. Reddy was speaking to reporters after paying homage to Burgula Ramakrishna Rao at his statue here on his 37th death anniversary.
Rasamayi awards
Disclosing this to media persons here on Tuesday, the Rasamayi Founder, M.K. Ramu, said that the organisation had been presenting Akkineni Life Time Achievement Awards for the last five years to prominent film personalities. The day would also see the `Asheethipoorthi Mahotsav'(81st birthday) of Dadasaheb Phalke awardee and Padmabhushan Akkineni Nageswara Rao, he said. Member of Parliament, N. Janardhan Reddy, would be the chief guest and the School Education Minister, N. Rajyalakshmi, would present awards.
Farmer commits suicide
According to the Jagtial SI, P. Prashanth Reddy, the farmer had incurred debts to the tune of Rs. 2.7 lakhs due to crop failure. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

Study centre at Kothapally
The Nagarjuna university Centre for Distance Education Director, V. Chandra Shekhar Rao, will be present. The study centre, first-of-its-kind in the north Telangana region, will offer PG courses through distance mode. In a pressnote here on Tuesday, the KIMS college chairman, P. Ravinder Rao, said the distance education centre would offer courses such as M.Sc (botany, zoology, physics, chemistry, micro-biology and mathematics), MBA, M.Com and MA (all subjects). The study centre will cater students of Karimnagar, Adilabad and Nizamabad districts.
Good response to handloom expo
The total sales of various handloom products from September 2 to 13 at the exhibition was Rs. 83.25 lakhs. A total of 60 stalls were put up in the exhibition, which would conclude on September 16. The Collector, C. Parthasarathi, on Tuesday called upon people to purchase handloom products. He hoped that sales would improve further in next two days.
