HYDERABAD, SEPT. 14. The Congress has stepped up its criticism of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti president, K. Chandrasekhara Rao, by demanding his resignation from the Union Cabinet and unconditional apology for his `unsavoury remarks' against the AICC chief, Sonia Gandhi, even as P. Janardhan Reddy, MLA, has announced a protest rally here for tomorrow. At separate press conferences on Tuesday, Congress leaders demanded nothing short of Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao and his Cabinet colleague, A. Narendra's resignation and threatened to launch an agitation.
Resignation demanded
They said the cadres would take to streets till the Union Minister tendered an unconditional apology. The TRS was welcome to snap its ties with the Congress. The Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee leader, M. Kodanda Reddy, at a press conference demanded resignation of Mr. Chandraskhara Rao and Mr, Narendra for cheating people of Telangana. Mr. Kodanda Reddy said the TRS leaders were trying to mislead people with false promises. He said the TRS leaders distorted the contents of the Common Minimum Programme of the UPA Government and the President's address to Parliament besides tampering with the agenda of the Cabinet meeting to derive political mileage.
Protest rally
Mr. P. Janardhan Reddy, M. Mukesh and Malreddy Reddy, all city MLAs, said a rally would be taken out from Abids to the Secretariat in protest against the remarks by Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao. Mr. Janardhan Reddy gave another 12 hours to the TRS chief to tender an unconditional apology to Ms. Sonia Gandhi. The APCC spokespersons-- R. Anand Bhaskar and U. Sharada-- advised Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao to restrain himself from making cheap comments. The Congress MLAs -- G. Muddukrishnama Naidu and Sambaiah--- accused Mr. Rao of making politically immature statements and trying to deride the Congress leadership.
