GUNTUR, SEPT. 14. The head cashier of the Station Road branch of the Punjab National Bank in Guntur, Turlapati Venkata Lakshmi Narasimha Rao, allegedly fled the city with Rs. 4.30 lakhs of the bank's cash on Monday. The loss did not come to the notice of bank officials till last night when they were about to close the bank. Search by the bank officials in his house proved futile as he had not returned home after leaving the bank during lunch hour. The officials complained to the police late last night. On checking his cabinet and files, they found a letter purportedly written by Narasimha Rao in which he said he had resigned and was taking the money to pay off his debts. The bank officials did not notice the loss of money till he himself called up and informed a bank employee. The Inspector investigating the case said Narasimha Rao, a native of Ramireddy Peta in Narsaraopeta in Guntur, could be either in Hyderabad or Tirupati. In his letter he wanted the stolen amount adjusted against the amount due to him as final settlement following his resignation.
