TIRUPATI, SEPT. 14. Taking up birth control operations in a planned manner in canines can effectively tackle the incidence of rabies, according to S. Chinny Krishna, former vice-chairman, Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI). Dr. Krishna, who visited the animal birth control and anti-rabies (ABC-AR) vaccination centre for stray dogs at Mundlapudi near here on Tuesday, explained how the success of the rabies control programme could be ascribed to the comprehensive birth control strategy in stray dogs. ``The cooperation of municipalities and gram panchayats is very much required in implementing the scheme," he said. Animal Care Land, the NGO behind the centre, performs surgeries with the support of Blue Cross of India, the Marching Animal Welfare Trust and AWBI.
