Cuddapah
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, SEPT. 14. The AISF State general secretary, N. Raja Reddy, on Tuesday charged the State Government with being unconcerned at the plethora of problems facing students. Addressing a seminar here on `problems and challenges in the new education policy', Mr. Raja Reddy decried non-distribution of one-fourth of textbooks out of the total requirement of eight lakh books in the State, although three months elapsed in the academic year.
EAMCET coaching
Divergent statements of Ministers on EAMCET were causing concern among students, he said. While the Technical Education Minister stated that EAMCET would be scrapped, the Higher Education Minister maintained that it would continue, the AISF leader recalled. Mr. Raja Reddy demanded introduction of EAMCET coaching in Government junior colleges and giving weightage of 50 per cent marks in Intermediate for admission to engineering and medicine courses. The AISF district secretary, G. Chandra, demanded waiver of students' fees in drought-hit areas. The AITUC district secretary, B. Ramaiah, demanded completion of pending irrigation projects and steps to check derogatory portrayal of women. Mr. Raja Reddy gave away mementos to AISF members who won in college elections in Cuddapah, Proddatur and Rajampet.
`Chalo Hyderabad'
Meanwhile, Mr. Raja Reddy told a press conference that the AISF called for a `Chalo Hyderabad' protest on September 24 demanding sanction of pending scholarships. He lamented that 1.44 lakh Backward Classes students were denied of scholarship.
