Set up industries in villages, Union Minister tells youth

NELLORE, SEPT.14. The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, P. Lakshmi, has urged the educated youth to set up industries in rural areas, thereby helping to promote the spirit of self-employment.

The Minister who was the chief guest at a seminar on `Rural industrialisation and self-employment', arranged by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission and A.P. Productivity Council, Hyderabad, at the Ambedkar Bhavan, Nellore, on Tuesday, said that the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had been making all out efforts to provide self-support to about 30,000 youths under Rajiv Yuvashakti scheme.

Noting that industrialists and film personalities hailing from the district had been in the forefront, the Minister urged the youth to emulate them. Ms. Lakshmi, wanted the educated youth, to take advantage of about 223 branches belonging to different banks in Nellore district and secure the required financial assistance for self-support and economic upliftment. `Determination and patience will help attain one's goal', she said.

The Director of Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Hyderabad, K. Mohan Rao, said that more than 5,000 persons were able to secure employment in Nellore district through 24 different projects at a cost of Rs. 1.33 crores, out of which a subsidy of Rs. 40 lakhs would be handed over, provided the rural industries were satisfactorily managed atleast for a period of two years.

KVIC assistance

The Director said that last year the Commission had provided an assistance of Rs. 50 crores which helped in establishing 697 rural industries, for which a subsidy of Rs. 14 crores was handed over.

The District Collector, B. Rajsekhar, made it clear that it will be impossible for the Government alone to provide jobs to increasing number of aspirants. `Tilt towards rural industries should become an alternative in the process of self-employment', he said. The Chairman, A.P. Productivity Council, S. Rajagopala Reddy, officials and bankers were present.
