Rs.2.74 cr. sanctioned under SSA for Perambalur dt.

PERAMBALUR, SEPT.14. A sum of Rs.2.74 crores has been sanctioned under the `Sarva Siksha Abhiyan' (SSA) during the current academic year for the creation of infrastructure facilities in educational institutions in the district.

The facilities included provision of additional classrooms, toilet and drinking water and construction of Cluster Resource Centres.

Of this, a sum of Rs. 2.13 crores would be spent for construction of additional classrooms for 56 schools. While Rs.26.10 lakhs would be earmarked for provision of drinking water facility at 174 schools, another Rs.19.40 lakhs would be spent for construction of toilets on the premises of 97 schools.

The Chief Educational Officer, K.Sasikala, who is also the District Programme Coordinator for the SSA, told The Hindu here today that eight CRCs would be constructed during the current academic year at an outlay of Rs.2 lakhs each. A group of eight non-governmental organisations had identified 6,105 dropouts from schools. All these children in the age group of 5 to 14 years would undergo a special coaching under the bridge course programme. At the end of the course, these children would be admitted to the mainstream of education.
