KOLLAM, SEPT. 13. The district unit of the Akhila Kerala Brahmana Federation (AKBF) has called upon the State Government to extend due representation for the community while filling up the vacancies in the Travancore Devaswom Board, the Cochin Devaswom Board and the Kerala Public Service Commission. A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the federation held here on September 12. In a statement here today, the general convener, N.K. Balasubramaniam, said that the federation would strongly resist any attempts to isolate the members of the Brahmana community from positions that matter. The resolution called upon the State Government to fill up the Devaswom Board vacancies before the Mandala Vilakku festival season. The new Chief Minister should show the wisdom to promote a system of reservation based on economic criteria in order to ensure the preservation of the secular traditions and development of the nation, it said. The meeting elected K. Kumar Kini president and Mr. Balasubramaniam general secretary of the federation. The other office-bearers are: N.K. Namboodiri, N.K. Chandra Kumar and M. Krishna Iyer (vice-presidents) K.N. Ramakrishnan, N. Easwaran Potti, S.R. Sarma, Lalithabai and Ananda Shetty (secretaries) and K. Venkita Krishnan (treasurer).
