Tendulkar responding well to treatment

BIRMINGHAM, SEPT. 14. Sachin Tendulkar should lift a bat in ten days time from now as he prepares for the home series against Australia. Troubled by a tennis elbow injury, the maestro has not played since the final of the Asia Cup in Colombo. Under treatment in London, Tendulkar has been in touch with the team physiotherapist, Andrew Leipus and is reportedly responding well to the treatment. Even though he may not be able to play any match before the first Test against Australia, the team management is confident he would recover in time to strengthen the team. In the opinion of Leipus, this was Tendulkar's worst injury in a career that began in 1989. The back problem has haunted the master batsman for some time but this appears to be serious. Meanwhile L. Balaji is set to return home. His injury, related to abdomen, is said to be common among footballers but it may take time for him to get back to international cricket. According to Leipus, the injury could take four weeks to six months to heal. — Our Special Correspondent
